Richard Birchett
Wildlife and Conservation Photographer & Videographer
Richard Birchett is a published and award-winning wildlife photographer based in the United Kingdom, originally from Cornwall, England. With over two decades of service in the UK Military as a Survival Specialist, Richard’s deep connection with the natural world has profoundly influenced both his life and his photography.
After spending three years in Canada on an overseas posting, Richard has recently returned to the UK, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained while exploring and photographing the vast wilderness of the Great White North. During his time in Canada, he turned his lens toward its untamed landscapes and iconic wildlife, using his specialist tracking, pathfinding, and survival skills to locate and photograph animals in their natural environments.
Today, Richard continues to pursue wildlife photography with the same passion and dedication, capturing authentic and intimate moments that showcase the beauty, behaviour, and resilience of wildlife in the wild.
His work has been featured in prestigious media outlets and campaigns, including BBC Wildlife Magazine, BBC Springwatch, BBC Countryfile, and The Wildlife Trusts, highlighting his growing influence in the nature photography community. Richard is passionate about using his imagery to promote the healing power of nature, advocating for its benefits to both mental and physical health.
A strong believer in ethical wildlife photography, Richard always prioritises the welfare of his subjects. His striking images have been published and shared globally, known for their authenticity and emotional depth.
Richard is a qualified member of the Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers (SINWP) and serves as a UK & Canada Ambassador for Nature First – The Alliance for Responsible Nature Photography, as well as for f-stop gear, Cotton Carrier, and Tragopan Photography Gear and Hen Harrier Action. He also works as a photography guide for Eco Terra Adventures, a UK-based travel company, leading photographic expeditions around the world. Through his lens, Richard hopes to inspire others to reconnect with the natural world—and to protect it for generations to come.
