Details currently being finalised for my Private Woodland Badger Hide 2027. ( Hides currently being built )

This half day photographic hide session (4-5 Hrs) on Badgers will take place from April & September and actual dates will become more clear as the season progresses. The Badgers are best captured in the early morning & evening when the light levels are much better. You will be working in my own private 8.5 acre woodland and at ground level to capture eye level shots which bring a uniqueness to the pictures, I use natural materials as hides, plus dependant on the earth also from manmade hides by Tragopan or static woodland hides. This will mean that you will be potentially working in confined spaces and sometimes on uneven ground for quite sometime. So this is something you need to take in to consideration before booking. If you can manage this discomfort, you may be rewarded with some amazing images of the Badgers and Cubs.

As always you will be thoroughly briefed before the hide session commences and not just about the day but how to take the shots to get great images., We will also discuss the best fieldcraft techniques in order to prevent any disturbance to the Badgers. Timing on this is key so please allow flexibility on dates, I will be monitoring them closely to ensure I pick the perfect time to capture the Cubs emerging for the first time. Dependant on when the Badgers appear you should have at least 300mm of focal length on a cropped-sensor body or 400mm lens on a full frame body or longer. Tripods and beanbag supports are advisable, make sure the tripod can be set to a low angle to achieve that intimate shot. To add to the flexibility bring a teleconverter if you have one.

NOTE: This is NOT a baited hide, no supplementary food is given to the Badgers and they are only captured naturally.

The black-and-white striped badger is a well-known species in the UK. It is our largest land predator feeding on small mammals, birds’ eggs, worms, fruit and plants. Badgers live in large family groups in burrows under the ground called a ‘sett’. You know if a sett is lived in as it is usually neat and tidy with clean doorways marked with piles of used bedding (hay and leaves). There will also be a particularly smelly pit nearby that the badgers use as a toilet! They have strong front paws, which they use to dig for food. Cubs are born in January or February but spend the first few months underground only coming out in spring when it is a little warmer.
