Roe deer are one of the UK’s most graceful and widespread native deer species. Small and elegant, they are easily recognised by their reddish-brown summer coats, which turn grey in winter, and the distinctive white rump patch. Bucks grow short antlers that are shed and regrown each year, often covered in soft velvet during spring and early summer. Commonly found in woodlands, farmland edges, and even suburban areas, roe deer are shy yet adaptable, making them a cherished sight across much of the British countryside.
