The white-throated dipper is a distinctive little bird and the UK’s only truly aquatic songbird. Recognisable by its dark brown body, short tail, and bright white throat and breast, it thrives along fast-flowing rivers and streams. Perfectly adapted to life on the water, the dipper can dive and walk along riverbeds in search of aquatic insects and larvae. Its cheerful, bobbing movements and sweet song make it a favourite among birdwatchers, while its presence is also a sign of clean, healthy waterways.
