Red Squirrel
Red Squirrel
Bring energy and character into your home with this dynamic Red Squirrel fine art print. Captured in the Scottish woodlands, this young squirrel is frozen mid-leap, springing gracefully from perch to perch. After many failed attempts and out-of-focus shots, this perfect moment reveals the agility and spirit that make red squirrels so captivating to watch.
A true symbol of Scotland’s wild forests, the red squirrel is both rare and iconic, and this image celebrates its playful nature in full flight. Available as a premium print, it’s ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, collectors, or anyone looking to add a burst of life and movement to their space. Exclusively available on my website.
The UK’s red squirrel is a cherished native species, instantly recognisable by its tufted ears and russet fur. Once widespread, its numbers have dramatically declined due to the introduction of the non-native grey squirrel in the 19th century. Grey squirrels outcompete reds for food and carry the squirrelpox virus, which is harmless to them but often fatal to reds. Today, red squirrels survive mainly in parts of Scotland, Northern England, and a few isolated areas. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, including habitat management and grey squirrel control, there is hope for the recovery of this iconic woodland species.
